Callie and I shot these on what can only be described as a bajillion degree day of heat and humidity in central NC. I, however, was sweating much more than she was, as she seemed impervious to sweat. We also shot these inside the butterfly conservatory at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science in Durham, which is known to add on additional layer of sweat lodge characteristics. Thankfully on this day, it happened to be cooler inside the butterfly house rather than outside, so it kept us from melting into small puddles while we were there. Callie’s hair and makeup held up beautifully and so did SHE! She’s a gorgeous, free-spirited type of lady who’s into her dog and her fiance Chris, who were married on August 11th (so now I can finally post these – yaaaay!). She also has the best biceps and triceps due to Crossfit. She told me she likes to “lift heavy things and then put them down and then lift them again.” Amen, sister. At Crossfit she also became friends with OUR amazing friend Sarah (whose wedding we shot and who designed our awesome bat logo!), so it’s a small world after all. I had an awesome time running around the Museum of Life and Science with her, her dad (who was included in the pictures because it was his birthday!), and the epic dinos. Later we hung out around Satellite Park for some more casual shots. Enjoy the post, and congrats to Callie and Chris!
These two! We heart them. They ran around some parks in Durham with us and told us lots of hilarious stories and were really fun to be around when we saw a really creepy/suspicious guy running creepily/suspiciously around some creepy/suspicious historical buildings filled with creepy/suspicious stuff and also probably ghost children. Abbi and Olivia are from the middle of Pennsylvania but live down here in NC now, and they wanted a rustic sort of engagement session with the whole rustic building thing and vibe and a field. And I know of this great field in this one park. But then we got there and the field had been cut down for the winter and we were just left with that dude and the ghost children. They took it all in stride and commented how it also looked like the set of The Conjuring.
Before we got there, we explored yet another park that was wonderful and woodsy with their two year old pup named Maizee. Maizee is an adorable free spirited doggo who wore a lovely flower collar and was in love with Geoff. Also in love with treats. Also in love with life and running and being a doggo. It was cute.
Abbi and Olivia are really cute too. Like, really cute. Also, they got injured more on this engagement session than we’ve ever had anyone get injured before, but mostly because they enjoy running into each other at high speeds. They are really fun and Olivia can throw things really far. She has a history of throwing things (discus, javelin, hammer) and then she threw a pinecone for us and it went super far. Abbi grew up in a military family and has lived in a bunch of states. They like to fish and are outdoorsy and are really wonderful lovely people who are getting married up in PA next year, and we wish them all the best. We hope Olivia throws a bouquet REALLY REALLY FAR and everyone has to go chase it a long distance.
We first met Laura and Josh online as we Skyped with them from their place in Brooklyn, NY. Later, as the wedding got closer, we met with them on their family’s property where the wedding ceremony would take place. They thought I’d be taller. I thought they’d be taller (even though they were still taller than I am). Geoff’s tallness seemed accurate to everyone. These guys are real and authentic. They knew what was going to be “them,” and what wasn’t. Nixing a first look that they thought would be too staged, they opted rather for just kind of running into each other in the hallway of the house. In lieu of a wedding party, they had a group of friends dubbed The Special Helpers from all parts and periods of their life, but with no assigned clothing choices for the wedding and with all sorts of different assigned tasks (that they preformed amazingly – especially the ones wielding fake swords to guard Laura and Josh after the ceremony). They wanted a wedding with their close-knit family and friends involved. Many people played a special part, and the wedding was all about family and community.
Josh’s dad is a Rabbi and, strangely enough, was Laura’s childhood Rabbi despite her not ever meeting Josh until much later, in New York, and online. It’s kind of amazing to see that whole storyline come full circle with Josh’s parents discussing what she was like when she was a little girl at the wedding reception of their son. There was a ton of joy, a lot of laughter, and even (my favorite) Locopops. :) We were so thankful to be able to a part of Laura+Josh’s wedding!
