So happy to kickstart our wedding year season with a fantastic downtown Durham elopement! We hadn’t been to the new courthouse here, and I gotta say, it’s pretty snazzy. Lots of big windows and good light. We met Matthew outside on what had to be one of the coldest days of the winter and waited for Emily. They were so happy to be together that they smiled from the moment they saw each other until the moment we left despite Emily wearing a tea-length dress in temperatures of the low 30s and significant wind. :) They got married, shed a few happy tears, and then donned their gloves and coats to walk around the city with us for pictures. We took off their gloves and coats to significant protest more than a few times but they still didn’t stop smiling even though they were freezing. They are truly adorable and perfect together, whether it’s riding bikes around the city or camping in Virginia (speaking of bikes, thanks to their friends at Seven Stars Cycles for letting us shoot some pictures in the store!). From Florida, they’ve been in Durham for a couple years and just bought a house on several acres. Now that the wedding is over, Matthew’s going to spend his time trying to convince Emily they need a goat. Emily, this video should convince you. You’re welcome, Matthew.
Min and Clemann like Legos, math, science, museums, eating, baking, and movies. I’m particularly bad at math and science, but have a deep appreciation for eating as well as Legos and movies. Plus, Geoff makes up for it all with a solid understanding of science and math that I completely lack, so we were able to have some good conversations with Min and Clemann despite them being a lot smarter than us. :)
These guys are originally from Singapore and met during orientation for their engineering-related Masters at Duke, where they were 2 out of 3 Singaporeans that year. :) Turns out that they also live only a few minutes away from each other in Singapore, which Geoff and I thought an adorable coincidence, but it turns out that the whole island is only really 30 minutes across, so it’s not that big of a coincidence after all. ;) Min’s background is biomedical engineering, but she switched to medicine and just completed her 4-week elective at Duke Hospital (she hopes to go into pediatric medicine). Clemann’s background is aeronautical engineering where he worked for Singapore Airlines, but he has since switched to building offshore rigs where he gets a lot of satisfaction seeing his work result in a tangible structure.
They loved their graduate time and experience at Duke, so while Clemann’s been living back in Singapore for the last three years, he flew back to Durham to get some pre-wedding photos taken with Min on Duke’s campus and some special places for them around the city. Afterward, they were doing some traveling to Seattle and San Francisco, and then will both return to Singapore where they’ll get married in June. :) We had a great time seeing these two adorable, fun-loving people spend some time on their favorite campus and revisit some old spots. We wish them all the best with their wedding and lives in Singapore!
These two are the greatest of the great and we are so thankful that we were able to work with them! Angela and Terence live in Durham, but Terence is in the Marine Corps and therefore is often in different cities (currently Missouri), but they thankfully had a couple of weeks together recently where Terence was back home. :) Angela quickly set up an engagement session with us because they may not be in the same place together before their wedding in December and we were so excited because THEY were so excited and then even more excited when we learned about their cats (who kind of look like our cats)!
These two love video games (Angela has a Pokemon DS and Terence has a Zelda DS), their cats and American bulldog, and seem like they’re pretty solid at RockBand. They met through a party where Terence basically said, “Hello, I have a puppy” (paraphrased) and Angela was like, “Yes, puppies are cute, you must be a great guy” (paraphrased). Then they really did go play Rockband and are now going to live happily ever after. They’re getting married in December in South Carolina and we couldn’t be more happy for them or to have documented this awesome time in their lives. :)
