Royal is a 2 year old Brittany Spaniel who came into my life via his parents’ relationship with the parents of Hermine the Cat. And I could not be more thankful. He was such a grounded and polite subject and his name describes him perfectly. He would sit, stay, lay down, and even fake sneeze. That’s right. They taught him how to fake sneeze. They’d say “Achoo!” and he’d make a sneezing sound on command. Then, when he realized sneezing equaled treats, he’d sit there and sneeze and look at us like, “Hello! Here I am! I am sneezing! Where is my treat, please?” In his spare time, Royal enjoys chasing his toy pheasant, sitting on blankets (he dislikes hardwood floors), and playing with his soccer ball.
I was happy to have another wonderful client reunion with yet another CSP original couple (one of the first three!) on Monday. And while we had craaazy weather with the epic evening storm was that brewing, overcast skies and cows-flying-through-the-air wind, the doggies and us made the best of it!
Peanut is a Maltese/Poodle mix and enjoys chasing and biting his little sister, dragging around his toy duck, and treats. He cracks me up because he reminds me exactly of a stuffed dog I used to have when I was little. Butter is a Yorkie/Poodle mix that enjoys running, jumping, and running. Peanut was Erika and Dustin’s first dog, given to Erika on Valentine’s Day. Butter came a while later and was named to go along with Peanut… but Peanut ended up being much larger… and now they enjoy snickering behind their photographer’s back when she confuses their names a lot. ;)
These two were great, energetic little pups who enjoyed having the run of the park on this crazy windy day!
I was so so excited when I received the invitation to photograph the Downtown Raleigh Alliance Annual Meeting and Award Ceremony. :) This year’s theme was Breaking Ground with the Creative Class and focused on bringing entrepreneurs and creative visionaries into downtown. Not that they’re not there already – downtown Raleigh is one of the most artsy, beautiful cities I’ve been in with very few chain anything, relying more on indie restaurants, shops, and boutiques that bring back their regulars again and again. Nonetheless, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, which sponsors downtown activities such as Winterfest, the downtown Farmer’s Market, First Friday, and other fantastic events centered their annual meeting around Raleigh’s business owners and drawing more people to live and work downtown.
It was held at the Raleigh Convention Center which is a really modern and stunning venue. The decor was awesome (sequined purple tablecloths? yes, please!) and I had the opportunity to photograph Carol Colleta, President of CEOs for Cities. She was the guest speaker that evening, being interviewed round-table discussion style by Steve Daniels of ABC Channel 11 News.
What was extra special cool about this evening for me was seeing the Downtown Raleigh Alliance’s Annual Report, a printed booklet summary of all the awesome things the DRA and Raleigh has accomplished in the past year. This year I was happy to find out see that the front cover, as well as a ton of pictures inside the Annual Report, were taken by yours truly. :) It never gets old to see your work in print, and I was very proud and thankful for the DRA for all the opportunities they gave me in 2010.
