We get super nice and awesome clients all the time, but we feel like we really kick butt with the ones where we’re like, “YEAH, YOU REALLY GET WHAT WE’RE TRYING TO DO HERE, MAN!” They just trusted us, and we felt the vibes of trust, so in turn we were able to do what we do best, and put orange parking cones on the bridesmaids’ heads.

We met these two a while back. Both are from Pennsylvania (although Tracy grew up in neighboring Ohio), but Tracy roots for the Steelers (yeaaah!! wooooo!)  and Colin roots for the Eagles (booooo… hiss!!!). They told us at that initial meeting at their friends were going to be rowdy, and that there would be a lot of them. They were accurate on both accounts – this was the “youngest” wedding we’ve ever attended, with probably 70-90% of the guests being Tracy and Colin’s age, and it was also quite rowdy (details left out to protect the would-be innocent under probably more normal circumstances). We were also informed closer to the wedding that Tracy’s sister Karen, who is in the military, was Tracy’s maid of honor. However, the military wasn’t permitting her to leave base for the wedding, so they Skyped her in via iPad (she was carried down the aisle and was part of the family pictures).

When I asked Tracy what her dress looked like, she told me it had a “crumb catcher”… which was explained to me that it was fitted but had “a bit of pizazz at the top.” She then proceeded to make large jazz hand motions near her armpits. Turns out that she was totally accurate and her dress was kinda like having permanent jazz hands attached to the top and was awesome and completely gorgeous (Colin, you weren’t too bad yourself as the coral tie probably served as a bit of a jazz hand too). I told Tracy to make sure that she ate things really messily to see if the top did actually catch crumbs. I hope she did. Best part of the entire wedding? Listening to “I Swear” by All-4-One during their first dance and witnessing it cause middle school dance flashbacks for everyone involved. We love youuuu, Tracy and Colin!

The South is normally a bundle of sunshiney cheer, but this winter has been rough. And by “rough” I mean in the 30s and 40s and a lot of rain. That’s pretty “freaking awesome!” when you live in the north, but it’s atypically cold and wet for North Carolina. Unfortunately Kirsten and Michael’s wedding day was no exception to the “ugh” that’s been this winter here – cold and rainy.

But – and prepare yourselves for me to get totally cheesy right now – this couple has been a great ray of sunshine for us. Ohhh! So cheesy, but so true. They’ve been great. Genuinely nice people whose love is very evident for each other and the people around them. Kirsten bought me a scarf to say thank you before their wedding because she’s the sweetest girl ever. I took a few pictures of Michael staring at Kirsten in the most adorable way possible during the ceremony while their witnesses were signing their marriage license. Finally, just when I thought they were too cute, Kirsten’s dad gave a speech: Kirsten and her family are from Zimbabwe, where it’s traditional for a groom to pay a Labola to the bride’s parents in exchange for their daughter. It’s typically in cash or cattle. So Michael gave Kirsten’s parents a large teddy-bear shaped container filled with animal crackers.

When you’re looking at how cute they are, keep reminding yourself that Kirsten not only made her wedding cake, but her wedding dress. Yes, the whole thing. I still have my mom sew buttons on my coat when they fall off, so consider that.

This wedding had the 5 key components to any great wedding: a beautiful bride in a fluffy dress, a groom who is 6’7 who told you that you sounded taller on the phone, the cutest ring bearer in the entire land, a totally kick butt reception venue in the city, and dogs in bow ties named Calvin and Hobbes. The wedding wasn’t pitched to us quite like that… it was more like, “Hey, come shoot our wedding in Charlotte!” and we were all, “Okay!” and then when we met them and got there we knew it would totally rule. And rule it did.

Really, though, this reception venue is my type of venue. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a place so awesomely colorful or awesome. Please bring us back, Charlotte. We like it there.  You are always nice to us and contain the state’s only Ikea. And to Jen and Patrick – we love you both very much and had the BEST time. Thanks for putting up with us following you around and making cheesy jokes. We’ll come visit you, ok?

Jennifer’s Occupation: Advertising for Lowe’s Home Improvement

Patrick’s Occupation: Project Engineer for Crowder Construction

How You Met: We actually knew each other wayyyy back in high school.  I was dating one of his friends, and we all hung out together.  Fast froward about 10 years later and we were both living in a tiny town in NC (Kernersville) but didn’t know we both lived there.  UNTIL I saw on Facebook (of all places!), that he lived in Kernersville.  And since I didn’t know a single other person who lived there, I reached out to him and asked him what the hell he was doing living in Kernersville!  We had dinner a few days later and then were pretty much inseperable after that!  With a lack of exciting things to do in that small town that we loved SO much, we spent several nights in the Kville bowling alley drinking $1 drafts and having fierce bowling competitions.

Interesting Bride Fact: Jennifer loves to make things and crafted about 95% of the decorations for the wedding (with some help, of course!).  She’s also fluent in German, a language she learned in 3rd grade while attending a German Immersion School in Charlotte.

Interesting Groom Fact: Patrick is 6’7
