We’ve been looking forward to working with Sarah ever since she continued to hire us after we found out her last name was Palmer and decided to send her the Twin Peaks clip of Sarah Palmer removing her face with nothing but space and a Cheshire Cat smile underneath. This did not deter our own personal Sarah Palmer from responding to us. Instead, it seemed to encourage her. We liked that. Her and her husband Brandon also like Steely Dan and Monty Python and Halloween so they literally check every single one of my personal boxes of coolness (not sure if this is a low or high bar – probably depends on who you ask). Their wedding was going to include a Monty Python intermission as well as tacos and we were already all in, but then they threw in costumes and we were sold completely. Then they told us that Brandon would be performing “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney for Sarah Palmer, but then their friend would come out to “Jump” by Van Halen and he did…in complete spandex leggings with see-through mesh sides. Then a banana got dressed up and a space man danced like a robot and somebody put on underpants on the outside of their real pants and things got real strange. Not Sarah Palmer removing her space face strange, but a happy, wedding strange that only people who really prefer Halloween to every other holiday can enjoy and appreciate. We love you Sarah Palmer and Brandon – thank you for having us be a part of your world.

A lot of my photography depicts super happy times in the lives of people, but it’s also necessary to document the not-so-happy times. Even though it might not seem like it now, the not-so-happy times are still happy because you’re together. So even while you’re fighting a difficult battle, you have each other, and every day is worth celebrating.

It’s the celebration of Zoe’s life that brought Spencer and Ed to me, and I was happy to help them document the love that they have for her, and she for them. It was a bittersweet session, but the sweet outweighs the bitter in that they care so much for this adorable little pup, and they are making sure she makes the most out of her life and is living happily and comfortably in her remaining days. The photos were taken in the gorgeous front yard garden of their house (Ed has worked so hard on it!).

Spencer adopted Zoe when she was just 12 weeks old, and they have an incredibly close bond. That bond was shared when Spencer fell in love with Ed three years ago, and now Zoe loves them both (and vice versa). Zoe, at age 6.5, was diagnosed with lymphoma. While a little tired between rounds of chemo, she is still a major cuddlebug, and happily follows Spencer and Ed around. It was a joy to get to know her fluffy face and to capture the bond between this family (minus the cat, who was out galavanting but I’m sure he shares the same sentiments). I wish Zoe the best with her treatment and care, and know that she has two very loving parents who are making sure she knows she’s loved.

October is our favorite time of year, and we were so happy to spend it with some super awesome people on a gorgeous day in Chapel Hill. Plus, wedding food is very important, and weddings that contain GF garlic cream bacon pizza AND bourbon coffee ice cream are at the top of my list. But as if it couldn’t get any better, this wedding venue also had a very cute goat, as well as a barn cat that I befriended and took a selfie with. Boom! A good work day indeed. Christina and David were so excited and made the best of every moment. They also have a great group of extremely supportive friends who all pulled together to make this day happen smoothly. It had basically monsooned the day before (which is better than the day of), and their friends laid down hay in the tent and did a ton of work to make this wedding as dry and comfortable as possible, so mad props to the wedding party and friends for their hard work at the venue! The weather was a little chilly, but everyone was comfortable in their heated tent and around their bonfire in the yard. Cafe lights added a bit of a magical touch, and it was a perfect fall wedding. We were happy to be there and spend the day with these two lovely individuals.
