One Ellie. One Carolyn. Two Geoffs with the correct spelling(!). Two beards. Two RIT alumni. One hotdog tie. One R2D2 table greeter. Several amazon women sculptures. A few Princess Bride references.

Two months ago, one Ellie e-mailed one Carolyn to ask if we would be available to travel to  upstate New York to shoot their wedding on a Wednesday (well, it’s kind of southwesternish New York… about an hour south of Buffalo, but our Geoff claims that when he grew up in upstate New York that everything outside of the city is often referred to as upstate, so we’re sticking to it). In her e-mail, Ellie mentioned that she was upset because she hasn’t been able to find her Ace of Base cd lately, to which Carolyn enthusiastically mentioned that she used to roller skate with her sister in their parents’ basement to the Ace of Base cassette tape on repeat when she was younger. Ellie responded that she has a scar from roller skating in her parents’ basement and she then forwarded the e-mail to her Geoff, who responded that he also used to roller skate in his parents’ basement, but not to Ace of Base. An immediate bond was formed. We found out that Ellie’s Geoff also went to RIT (where our Geoff went) and also has a beard (so does ours!!). Clearly, this was very much meant to be.

They chose their date because they thought it’d be nice to have fireworks on their wedding anniversary every year. They based their wedding colors off of Geoff’s BMW M series. They bought old mattress springs online, cut and stained wooden boards to attach them to, and used them as vases for their awesome fabric flower centerpieces complete with random keyboard keys. They bought us Dharma Initiative pins to wear around as button-eres. There was a hotdog tie as a reference to the groom’s last name.

I think if it wasn’t for the possibility of a lot of ticks in the tall grass and for the shred of dignity that I’ve managed to hang on to, I probably would’ve rolled around on the ground like a puppy in the sun for a good while when I saw their wedding ceremony location at Griffis Sculpture Park. I never thought giant naked stone women would make for such an interesting or useful background but it did. I could type a lot more but I’m tired and you probably want to see the pictures. Ellie and Geoff – we are forever grateful for this wonderful experience that you kindly bestowed on us this summer and the absolute kindness you all showed us while we were there. We look back on it with big smiles.

Okay, get ready to follow this. Ashley and her husband Dave booked us last year for their wedding because Ashley, who went to high school with my older sister Laura, accidentally landed on a plane right next to her flying to Los Angeles and started talking about her wedding, where my sister chimed in and recommended us. Ashley, in turn, recommended us to Julie, who then e-mailed us to ask about our availability, when we all found out that her fiancé Ian used to play baseball with Geoff in high school (Geoff also went to high school with Julie but was a few years above her). Mmm, six degrees of CSP bacon. :)

They got married in a town called Oakmont outside of Pittsburgh which is a few minutes from where all of us grew up. I’ve driven past this church a hundred times but was never inside until now (I always find it interesting to get to go inside places in Pennsylvania that I never visited when I lived there but get to go there now when we live in North Carolina). Geoff saw a ton of people that he knew at the wedding or who knew his dad (who umpires locally). Geoff was not quite easily spotted due to the giant beard that was notably absent in high school. ;)

Julie and Ian are super sweet together and have a great support group of family and friends. Geoff immediately declared Ian was going to be quite easy to work with due to his constant smiling, and this was very much the case for both him and Julie, too. We had an awesome time and were excited and honored to be brought back to the ‘Burgh to shoot their wedding! Congratulations, guys!

We get super nice and awesome clients all the time, but we feel like we really kick butt with the ones where we’re like, “YEAH, YOU REALLY GET WHAT WE’RE TRYING TO DO HERE, MAN!” They just trusted us, and we felt the vibes of trust, so in turn we were able to do what we do best, and put orange parking cones on the bridesmaids’ heads.

We met these two a while back. Both are from Pennsylvania (although Tracy grew up in neighboring Ohio), but Tracy roots for the Steelers (yeaaah!! wooooo!)  and Colin roots for the Eagles (booooo… hiss!!!). They told us at that initial meeting at their friends were going to be rowdy, and that there would be a lot of them. They were accurate on both accounts – this was the “youngest” wedding we’ve ever attended, with probably 70-90% of the guests being Tracy and Colin’s age, and it was also quite rowdy (details left out to protect the would-be innocent under probably more normal circumstances). We were also informed closer to the wedding that Tracy’s sister Karen, who is in the military, was Tracy’s maid of honor. However, the military wasn’t permitting her to leave base for the wedding, so they Skyped her in via iPad (she was carried down the aisle and was part of the family pictures).

When I asked Tracy what her dress looked like, she told me it had a “crumb catcher”… which was explained to me that it was fitted but had “a bit of pizazz at the top.” She then proceeded to make large jazz hand motions near her armpits. Turns out that she was totally accurate and her dress was kinda like having permanent jazz hands attached to the top and was awesome and completely gorgeous (Colin, you weren’t too bad yourself as the coral tie probably served as a bit of a jazz hand too). I told Tracy to make sure that she ate things really messily to see if the top did actually catch crumbs. I hope she did. Best part of the entire wedding? Listening to “I Swear” by All-4-One during their first dance and witnessing it cause middle school dance flashbacks for everyone involved. We love youuuu, Tracy and Colin!
