We’ve been long-distance-email-friends with Cat and Mitchell ever since they wanted to have their consult at a Waffle House. Then Cat got in the habit of sending me Buzzfeed lists of ridiculously terrible and over-the-top engagement photo ideas, and then insisted we meet for tacos before their engagement session where she showed up wearing galaxy leggings. We keep trying to see Brand New with Mitchell and we’re fairly confident that it will work out someday but the chances of it working out would be even stronger should Cat and Mitchell move closer to us. They had their wedding at Starlight Meadow, an amazingly gorgeous farm-barn wedding venue out near Burlington, and brought in the most important of all wedding accessories: a bouncy castle. Cat wore a pink dress and the whole wedding was comic-booked themed with dinosaurs for an added touch. Mitchell wore batman Converse shoes, and Cat wore Joker converse shoes. My favorite part of the whole day was when the little flower girl saw the Joker converse shoes and said, “Ohhh, Aunt Cappy, and they are beautiful!!!” and gasped and made some other clearly impressed noises like they weren’t in fact very fun and awesome Chucks, but rather jewel-encrusted Cinderella slippers. Well, that was my favorite part of the day until an adorable black cat showed up  and decided to take some pictures with us until the staff at Starlight Meadow lovingly escorted him away (much to our disappointed and sadness). It was a pretty great wedding.

Bérénice and Mike gave us the joy of attending and photographing our first courthouse wedding recently! We’ve had a few very small, intimate weddings in the past (one where Carolyn was literally the only guest and witness!), but no courthouse weddings, so we were excited for something new. Bérénice and Mike were excited to have a low-key, low-stress way to permanently commit to each other without the headaches attached to a large scale shindig. :) Together, we had an awesome time! Mike’s family came in to join him from out of state, and Bérénice’s family came all the way from France to see her get married. There was a lot of love in that room, and even more so between Bérénice and Mike. And despite it being hot, humid, and muggy… and despite Bérénice’s feet hurting from her really adorable shoes, these two were really cooperative, fun to work with, and two really nice people. We ran around Raleigh to take some newlywed pictures of them before they went off to Sitti to celebrate their wedding with amazing food! A big congratulations and a huge “thank you for having us!” to Bérénice and Mike for allowing us to be with them on their wedding day. :)

Geoff and I had several weeks there (12 weeks, actually) where we were out of town for almost every weekend. Emily and Charlie’s wedding was our first local wedding back, and we couldn’t have gotten back into the swing of localness with a better venue, better vendors or, of course, a better couple (granted, Charlie is a Phillies fan, but we don’t hold that against him). We love farm weddings as they tend to be really chill. This wasn’t actually chill because it was pushing 90+ degrees, but the people were absolutely lovely. :) Emily and Charlie were married by their friend (who gave them an amazing and humorous ceremony) and then joined their friends and family in the barn afterward for dancing.

Now – we see a lot of receptions and we see a lot of dancing. We typically know when there’s going to be a lot of dancing, and when there might not be so much dancing. This particular group of guests were very polite and well behaved and quiet, which usually means that they won’t be too much into the dancing. It was also very, very hot. Very hot. We were kind of sweating bullets all over the place. This is another sign that people will be fairly chill at the reception, usually talking and playing games as opposed to, you know, doing crazy dance floor gymnastics and jumping all over the place and dancing nonstop all the time WHICH THEY DEFINITELY ENDED UP DOING. I have no idea how they did it. Heck, their Grandma was on the floor! Geoff and I were sweating bullets just standing there and Grandma was dancing it up in the middle of a hundred some people. We were definitely impressed, and then even more impressed when one of the guests decided to toss ice into the mouths of people dancing which was a pretty ingenious idea. Anyway – it was pretty amazing and we were so happy to be there and be part of their fantastic party. Congratulations, to Emily and Charlie, and dance on, you crazy party guests. :)
