Durham Family Photographer

Carolyn Scott is a Durham family photographer. She specializes in candid and documentary at-home family photography in the Triangle area (Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, etc). Carolyn’s work has been published in several popular books and magazines, including Apartment Therapy, BuzzFeed, and Fangoria. Locally, she’s been voted Best Photographer in Durham Magazine’s Best Of Durham and INDY Week’s Best of the Triangle. She lives in South Durham with her husband Geoff and three cats.

Making Fools of Ourselves: 2016.

Here’s the 6th annual blog post of unprofessional pictures we’ve taken of each other while working. Bad light, bad hair, usually chewing food. Climbing on things and riding on the backs of golf carts and swimming and sitting on the floors of grocery stores and standing in the road. Hair of every conceivable color. Working with dogs that we can never successfully wrangle. Working with bridal parties that we can only kind of successfully wrangle. Glitter beards! Real beards! Connecticut and Italy and Pennsylvania and Tennessee and Virginia (YAAAHHHH)! Five different guys named John. Faking it til we make it. Although in business year 8 I guess we should probably stop faking it at some point and actually know what we’re doing. Maybe next year…but no promises.

As we finally bid this dumpster-fire of a year that is 2016 adieu, we take a moment to happily remember that while things went crashing and burning swiftly after David Bowie died, that not all of the year was bad. We personally had a lot of happy memories working with these happy people that we love and cherish. CSP had a wonderful year thanks to everyone in this post. A huge heartfelt congratulations to all of our clients on their weddings, anniversaries, children, pets, engagements, families, and all milestones large and small that we helped celebrate with you all this year. WE’RE SENDING A BIG HUG TO ALL OF YOU. A big, sweaty, gone-on-too-uncomfortably-long hug. May the odds of 2017 be ever in your favor. Congratulations to the CSP Class of 2016!

At Home w/ Lindsay+Ken+KG // Family Session

We are delightfully welcoming Lindsay+Ken to the CSP 5 Timer’s Club, to which there is unfortunately no sweet club jacket, but just the simple joy and satisfaction in knowing that I’ve ran around stalking you with a camera on five separate occasions. Here was their 4th occasion, when I accurately predicted that they were pregnant with what would turn out to be a really, really, ridiculously good looking child. I was right, of course, and KG is a stunner of a little-over-one-year-old. He didn’t like us at all until he realized we were there to take pictures of him, and then he turned on the charm. Big blue eyes, dark hair, and the attitude of an overworked model: smiling directly into the camera 99% of the time, demanding to see the pictures on the screen afterward to make sure he looked good, and then breaking down into tears due to hunger. He is an incredibly adorable kid, and his beauuuutiful parents are two people who are very near and dear to my heart. Dogs Mona and Lincoln, Boxer extraordinaires, were also present and adorable for this session, and also a cat! The cat was sleeping under a kitchen chair and permitted exactly four photos before she said, “I’m out” and left. It is really a cool job that we have to see our clients grow and have families and we can meet little mini versions of our clients. Welcome to the world, KG! And to the CSP 1st Timer’s Club. :)
