Who says February engagement sessions can’t be chock full of awesome?! Katelyn (Katie) and Blake were engaged in December and will be having their wedding in October in Texas. Blake is in the army and stationed in North Carolina while Katie is still living in Texas but flies in often to see him. She called me about doing their engagement pictures in Raleigh, and we discussed a couple of different options for locations. They were conflicted about two different looks: the tall, grassy field look and the bright colored background look. Usually it’s one or the other and it’s difficult to find a place to do both, but we ended up taking the nature ones at Fletcher Park and then making a short hop and skip to do the rest in downtown Raleigh.

It’s difficult to tell these were even taken in February with the lovely colors they chose to wear and the happy sunshine that followed us. :)

And before you see these, I must warn you… YES – Katie’s eyes are really that gorgeous… and YES –  They are both that ridiculously good looking. AND FUN. I just love these two!!! Also, it never gets old to have a guy tell you at the end of the session, “Wow, that was a blast! I wasn’t expecting it to be that fun!” :)

Of course, thanks to the clients for being awesome/trust, and to Geoff, for assisting and capturing some great shots as my second shooter!

You two are so gorgeous and fun! We had a great time working with you and wish you the absolute best of luck with your wedding!

Lori and Hassan became engaged in December 2010 in downtown Raleigh and contacted me shortly thereafter for photographs. We weren’t sure how the weather was going to pan out in January, but they had a beautiful morning! It was sunny and blue skies all the way. However, it was also ridiculously cold. :) And extremely windy. :) And nobody was shaking more than their little dog, Wrigley, who came with us for the session! But all three of them were troopers and we got some beautiful pictures traversing downtown Raleigh! They are a gorgeous couple with a great sense of style and it was so fun getting to know them. :)

Little Wrigley! She was a super good sport the whole time. She was with Lori and Hassan when they got engaged on the Capital Building lawn, so it was only fitting that she was there with us. Maybe she can be the ring bearer at the wedding! :) I vote yes.

We were shooting outside the capital in this little awesome doorway when the security guard saw us and waved us inside and out of the cold! Of course, we all had to go through security which took forever, I had to be inspected with a wand, and both my and Lori’s boots set off the metal detector, but all and all we were happy to be inside for a few minutes. ;)

Thank you so much, Lori and Hassan! You are a beautiful couple and I had a great time working with you!

I am so happy to finally be posting a beautiful portrait session of my dear friends and lovely couple, Greg and Matt. Greg and I were partners in crime in college, meeting one Halloween when he painted himself white, dressed up like Michael Jackson, and approached me in the school cafeteria, saying something to the effect of, “Why hello there, little girl.” We’ve been friends ever since. I also credit Greg with the start of my real passion for photography, as he was and is an excellent photographer in the DC area.

When Greg first told me about Matt, I was so excited. And of course I was not disappointed when I met him. :) Matt has always been so kind and nice to myself and Geoff, and makes a perfect other-half for Greg. They are a beautiful couple together and very close to my heart. Matt wanted pictures of the two of them as a couple for Christmas, as they’ve been dating a few years and need a good picture for their wall. Greg bought him a session and they both came up to visit me in Pittsburgh while I was home for vacation, where we took the pictures in and near our old alma mater, Point Park.

SPECIAL THANKS to the Point Park library staff. Specifically, thank you to William Cameron for giving us permission to photograph inside the Point Park library on a bitterly cold and snowy day in Pennsylvania when the library was closed for Christmas. And thank you to Chris Hill for meeting with us, showing us cool places in the library we hadn’t been before, and being supportive and hilarious. Thank you!

This picture cracks me up no matter how many times i look at it.

We found an awesome (abandoned?) phone booth that was really old school on the roof of the parking garage where I parked. :) Bonus points!

Props to Greg for showing me this sweet staircase!  This is probably my favorite from the day:

Of course we’d have this funky wallpaper in a secret room above the library accessible only by rickety bronze elevator. Go Point Park Pioneers! ;)

The Point Park Library used to be an old bank and we’ve kept the batman-movie-looking giant vaults in tact. :)

north side photography

We wanted to take some shots on the North Side and parked across from my and Geoff’s old apartment where we took this picture. :) It used to be white with baby blue window sills, but they’ve painted it. I like it. :) I miss living there, minus the occasional shootings up the street. The North Side has become a pretty dangerous area of Pittsburgh, but the Mexican War Streets (pictured here) is a little beautiful neighborhood of awesome old houses and is (relatively) danger-free.
