Rachael and Jared Bowman are the incredibly talented husband and wife photography team behind Rachael Bowman Photography, duo based in Raleigh but kicking ass everywhere. We were so excited to finally meet them in real life, and also nervousssssss (it’s hard not to be when you’re photographing someone so talented), but they are so nice and wonderfully welcoming that they put us instantly at ease (and it didn’t hurt that they had video games and Walking Dead comics). Our task was to photograph them hanging out in their house as a two-fold use for both family photos and promo pictures that they could use for their business showing their chill, laidback selves. This would, of course, involve their two fluffernutters Zoe (black lab) and Ellie (yorkie) whom we won over with an offering of cheese sticks. Later, still hungry, they did attempt to steal Rachael and Jared’s pizza, but I can’t blame them for trying. We all had a fabulous time bonding over photography related things, but also board games and all the Community paintball episodes. We also got a few new two-player video game recommendations out of the deal and have gotten them sucked into the marriage therapy/lessons in communication that is the game Overcooked. We love these guys and hope you get a feeling for their sweet life and home together. Please check out Rachael+Jared’s work! It is stunning and they’re rad people if we do say so ourselves.

Such an absolute pleasure, as usual, working for the brilliant Susan Langford, owner of Gilded Bridal. This is Gilded Bridal’s introduction into the CSP 4 timers club and I couldn’t be happier. Susan’s bridal shop in downtown Raleigh has grown by leaps and bounds over the past several years, with many of our clients getting their dresses from her. She’s extremely careful and contentious about the designers and dresses she carries and it shows. So happy to have photographed these updated small business portraits of Gilded Bridal’s downtown Raleigh store! Also happy to have gotten the chance to hang out with Susan again, as usual, and to look at sparkly things. Sooo much sparkle.
Words can’t express how awesome this opportunity was for us, but we’ll try.
As Halloween and horror buffs, we had been trying to make it to The Myers House for some time. A lived-in replica of the Michael Myers house from John Carpenter’s Halloween, it stands in a little clearing in the woods in Hillsborough. The owner, Kenny Caperton, hosts a huge Halloween party each year. Of course, his Halloween party always coincided with our own, or some other Halloween festivity that we had already planned on, and we were never able to make it. But it was always kinda looming in the back of our minds as something we knew we needed to do, and someday we would get there. We never really thought we’d get there quite like we did. :)
As Halloween and horror buffs, we are also deeply familiar with Fangoria Magazine, which celebrates the horror movie genre and was around all throughout our childhoods. They were a print magazine when print was at the top of its game in the 80s and 90s, and then publication ceased for a bit. Recently, Phil Nobile Jr. became the new editor-in-chief, and made the decision to bring Fangoria back as a 100% print-based publication four times a year. No website, no online content, just print. AND WE WERE ASKED TO SHOOT PICTURES FOR ITS FIRST ISSUE… OF THE MYERS HOUSE (so many dancey red lady dress emojis here).
So, we finally got our chance to see the Myers House in person. It felt kind of surreal getting there by way of photographing it for Fangoria’s comeback issue but life is wonderfully strange sometimes. I’ll let the pictures now speak to the intense awesomeness of Kenny’s horror collection and his wonderful house, and I’ll let the article in the October 2018 issue of Fangoria introduce you to Kenny himself. We were so honored to take his portraits for Fangoria, and thankful that Fangoria has granted us permission to share them with you here.
