Durham Branding Photographer

Carolyn Scott is a Durham branding photographer. She specializes in candid and editorial branding photography in the Triangle area (Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, etc). Carolyn’s work has been published in several popular books and magazines, including Apartment Therapy, BuzzFeed, and Fangoria. Locally, she’s been voted Best Photographer in Durham Magazine’s Best Of Durham and INDY Week’s Best of the Triangle. She lives in South Durham with her husband Geoff and three cats.

I started offering mini headshot sessions as a way for people to get updated headshots for their websites and social media without having to do a full branding session. Clients also don’t have to spend a ton of time in front of the camera, and I’m loving them! It’s like speed dating, but with… photography? Plus I get to meet a lot of interesting people with fantastic new business ideas. I did some headshots for Kate recently, who has a consulting startup business and big plans for how she can help meld together vision and values for people. I’m looking forward to seeing where her new ventures take her!

Maura and MoPups NC

Maura surrounds herself with dozens of doggos on a daily basis and clearly has the cutest of all jobs. She’s basically Snow White, but with literally every type of dog. Big dogs, little dogs, happy dogs, anxious dogs, fat dogs, skinny dogs, fluffy dogs… they all love her. And she loves them. She loves them so much that she just bought a house with a yard large enough to accomodate said doggos for playtime because she’s the mastermind behind MoPups NC, a dog sitting and walking business! So because she also has a cute job, I, too, got to have a super cute job for a day because in between some sitting and walking time with said adorable doggos, I took some headshots of Maura for her various business ventures. In between nearly every pose, she was approached by Sadie, her sweet golden retriever, with either a frisbee or a ball or a smaller ball that was contained within a larger plastic ball. It was adorable and fluffy and Sadie made for the cutest of all photography assistants. Sadie also got some play time in with her friend Max and even more doggo friends back at Maura’s house! It was like the running of the bulls, but with SO MUCH FLUFF INSTEAD. Maura clearly has a great reputation with her clients and the doggo world (she is, in my opinion, a great dog whisperer indeed) and it was a joy to take her photographs AND the photographs of so many fluffs in the process.

I used to get a ton of requests for high school senior portrait photography that I had to turn down due to our wedding schedule, but now that I’ve switched over to portraiture, I’m so happy that I get to take a bunch of these seniors on! It’s SO fun to work with them and talk to them about the future, and Jackson was no exception. Jackson’s graduating high school this spring, and is moving on to college at Appalachian State University. He considered a lot of different schools before deciding on App because of its different landscape and beautiful campus. In high school, he’s enjoyed playing trumpet in marching band (I am a fellow marching band kid, so I appreciated this greatly!) and trying out a ton of Durham’s restaurants, particularly the authentic Mexican restaurants that he loves. It was so much fun getting to know Jackson and I know he’ll have the best time at App State!
