Becca+Andy // At Home.

Becca and Andy e-mailed us with the task of photographing them in their renovated 70s house around their 10 year wedding anniversary. We love doing sessions at home, and we love anniversary sessions even more, and we love 70s contemporary architecture even more than that. So when we arrived at Becca and Andy’s 70s contemporary architecture paradise of a house, we were delighted. And then we saw that they have the same giant cat face pillow that we have. And the same doormat! And the same ceiling fan! And the same living room poofs! And while we don’t have any other actual objects in common, we do envision ourselves stealing the rest of their objects. Or, at the very least, telling us where they got them.

Their house is tremendously remodeled, all by them and with some help of some other handy people. It is absolutely beautiful, and has tons of light and a metal ceiling next to a wooden ceiling and a garage door in their living room and little built-in vase shelves and a wall full of little dots. They continue to work on the house (even though it doesn’t need it because it’s beautiful), but we were happy to document them in their current space at this current time. They are delightful people who know a lot about traveling and music and houses and we hope to absorb some of their knowledge and continue to use it for the power of good. I only trust people who have pillows in the shape of a giant cat face.

Newborn Session: Baby Finn.

We are always so happy to keep in touch with our awesome couples, and Brooke and David are no exception. And let’s be honest, their cat Spencer is pretty great too. We photographed their wedding back in May 2014 and have been keeping in touch with them and Spencer ever since, happily watching on from a respectful but also kind of creepy distance as Brooke writes tasty, tasty recipes on her foodie blog, Never Any Thyme (named after everyone’s favorite Jessie Spano “I’m So Excited” freakout), and giving her positive but insistent encouragement to bring back her bangs. Brooke is also crafty as hell, and knits stuff that is adorable and completely unattainable with my skill level. I admire her greatly. David isn’t on Instagram so I can’t stalk him as much and Spencer unfortunately doesn’t have his own account yet (hint) but I have high hopes for their adorable little offspring named Finn to have his own hashtag. Look at him! He is adorable and squishy and we are so, so happy for Brooke and David! This kid is a champ. I think he maybe cried for .2 seconds during the shoot, and the rest of the time he drank his entire weight in milk and fell asleep and let us do whatever we wanted. Brooke craved a lot of pineapple during her pregnancy, so we wrapped him in a pineapple swaddle, took some pictures, and called it a day. We also surrounded him with oranges? Because… we didn’t have any pineapple… ? And also… citrus is all the same, right? Wait, I just Googled it, and pineapple isn’t even a citrus. Uggggggh.

Promo: Author Brenda Rufener

This was so exciting, you guys! Brenda Rufener is a young adult author who is having her novel Where I Live published by HarperCollins in 2018. We were kindly asked by her to photograph her book jacket headshot and we said YES because BOOKS. So Brenda’s smiling face will greet you from a Barnes & Noble next year and my name will be next to said smiling face in some otherworldly, Twilight Zone twist of fate. Very exciting. We spent the afternoon making her look very **AUTHOR**. Book jacket headshots are very, very tight headshots for some reason. The industry standard being from the shoulders and above or waist and above (although we did some wider ones for her promo materials as well). So we ran around and zoomed in SUPER CLOSE on Brenda and talked about books and about how REM is one of the best bands of all time. She gets to go on a book tour and have her books in libraries and all sorts of really cool book stuff. We’re so happy to have done these headshots for such an amazing woman, and to have a wonderful author amongst us in Durham! Check out Brenda’s website for more information! http://www.brendarufener.com/
